Update, June 16, 2010:
As of July 12, I am a systems administrator at Telenor, Aalborg. As of July 1, my address is Parkvej 20, 1. tv., 9000 Aalborg, Denmark. I have found myself a nice, two-room, 67 m² apartment with 1.5 km to downtown and 1.7 km to work :-)

Update, August 1, 2009:
I am now working as a PhD student in the Distributed and Embedded Systems research unit at Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University. Also, I have moved from C. W. Obel Kollegiet to Nordjyske Kollegium.

I am now a Master of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics :-)

As you might have guessed from the page title, my name is Martin Toft. I live in Aalborg, Denmark, where I spend most of my time studying computer science and mathematics at Aalborg University. So far, I have obtained a B.Sc. degree in computer science, but my goal is to obtain a M.Sc. degree in computer science with mathematics as a subsidiary in the summer of 2009.

Besides studying, I spend some time doing system administration. From October 2004 to November 2008, I administrated my dormitory's computer network and Internet connection with a number of different co-admins. The system I put together using OpenBSD and a number of PHP and shell scripts is still providing the dormitory with 200/200 Mbps Internet access through Forskningsnettet today, and I occasionally provide free support. The work was almost unpaid, however, it had other benefits: freedom to experiment, meeting a lot of the dormitory's residents, and making sure that the job of administrating an essential part of my own path to the Internet was done properly. Since September 2007, I have earned a supplement to the state education grant by working in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Aalborg University, approximately eight hours a week. I am part of a three person team that does system administration and network administration and helps staff and students with IT related problems.

I like to think that I am a very versatile person, as I have worked in many trades, have fairly diverse interests, and am able to talk to almost anybody. So far, due to my ongoing education, the jobs have only been part-time jobs or jobs limited to the duration of a particular holiday. Nonetheless, I have worked at a biscuit distributor, at a manufacturer of plastic containers, in an office furniture centre, in the sausage department of a slaughterhouse, in the fishing industry, and in Google's Summer of Code program. My interests range from nerdy topics like programming and proving mathematical theorems (mostly trying to understand existing proofs...) to hunting, cooking and listening to music.
